There’s something timeless and powerful about a perfectly balanced bouquet; it says so much without a single word. And on Mother’s Day, that’s exactly what many of us are looking for: a way to express thank you, I see you, I love you all at once.
If you’re searching for Mother’s Day flowers in Toronto this year and want something more meaningful than the usual grocery-store roses, this guide is for you. We’ve gathered the season’s most-loved blooms, what they symbolize, and how to pair them to reflect the mom you’re celebrating. At Willem & Jools, each arrangement is handcrafted in our Roncesvalles studio, bringing Dutch-inspired floral artistry to the city we love. Let's find her bouquet.
Mother's Day is the second-biggest flower holiday of the year in Canada, and fresh flowers do something that lasts in memory longer than it does on the dining table. They mark the moment.
The tradition itself traces back to 1908, when Anna Jarvis handed out white carnations to honour her late mother. More than a century later, carnations, roses, peonies, tulips, and lilies still carry a quiet language of their own. Choosing the right bouquet is about matching the flower to the person.

Below are the blooms Toronto moms love most, and the sentiment each one carries. You can shop the full Mother's Day collection or browse our seasonal florals to choose your own.
Lush, ruffled, almost impossibly romantic, peonies are the unofficial queen of the Mother's Day season in Toronto. They symbolize prosperity, good fortune, and a happy marriage, and their short spring window (mid-May is peak) makes them feel like a gift the season itself is handing you.
Pair them with: garden roses, white lisianthus, and a few sprigs of eucalyptus for a soft, editorial-feeling arrangement. Our medium hand-tied bouquet is a favourite in peony season.
Roses reign for a reason. The key is the colour:
Pink roses say gratitude and admiration, the quintessential Mother's Day pick.
Peach and cream roses feel softer, more modern, and photograph beautifully on a Sunday brunch table.
Yellow roses speak to friendship and joy, perfect if your mom is also your best friend.
Red roses are reserved for deep, unconditional love.
If you want something that makes a real entrance at the door, our large hand-tied bouquet is built around a generous rose base.
Tulips represent perfect love and a cheerful outlook. They're one of the most Dutch-forward flowers we carry, and they have a kind of effortless elegance that doesn't need a lot of styling to feel finished.
Pastel tulip bouquets in butter-yellow, soft pink, or white are flying off the bench this year. Ideal for moms who lean minimalist.
Lilies (especially white Orientals) symbolize purity, devotion, and motherhood itself. They're also gorgeously fragrant, which makes them a sensory gift as much as a visual one. If your mom is the person who showed you what "showing up" looks like, this is her flower.
If your mom is the one who always spots the small, beautiful detail, like the right napkin, the perfect song, the way the light falls on a Saturday, a ranunculus is for her. Each bloom is a tiny architectural wonder, layered petal over petal. They pair perfectly with peonies and garden roses for a painterly, European-style arrangement.
Don't let anyone tell you carnations are old-fashioned. They're the original Mother's Day flower; they last over two weeks in a vase, and in peach, coral, or soft pink, they look anything but dated. A carnation-forward bouquet is a beautiful nod to a hundred-year-old ritual, especially meaningful if you're sending flowers in memory of a mother or grandmother.
Some moms can't be captured in a single flower. For them, we build seasonal arrangements that lean into whatever's most beautiful at the market that morning, which in Toronto, mid-May, usually means a riot of peonies, ranunculus, tulips, and sweet peas. These are our designer 's-choice favourites, and they're always one-of-one.
Pink: gratitude, admiration, gentleness (the safest, most-loved Mother's Day colour)
Peach & coral: warmth, sincerity, modern elegance
White & cream: purity, remembrance, quiet respect
Yellow: joy, friendship, sunshine
Lavender: grace, mystery, a mother who's a little unconventional
Red: deep love (usually reserved for romantic partners, but meaningful for a mother you've lost)

If your mom is more of a green thumb than a cut-flower person, our plantlife collection has sculptural houseplants that keep giving long after Mother's Day weekend. A beautifully potted plant paired with a handwritten card is, honestly, one of the most underrated gifts you can send. A gift card also lets her choose her own blooms — including, if she's ever been curious, one of our floral design workshops.
A few Toronto-specific things worth knowing before you hit "checkout":
Order early. Mother's Day is the single busiest weekend of the year for florists across the GTA. Ordering 3–5 days in advance gives you the best selection of peonies and specialty blooms, which sell out fast. Last-minute requests are usually still possible — but your colour palette gets narrower by the hour on that Saturday.
Same-day delivery is real, but limited. We offer same-day flower delivery across Toronto and much of the GTA — Roncesvalles, High Park, Parkdale, The Junction, Bloor West Village, Queen West, downtown, Etobicoke, Leaside, and beyond — but cut-off times on Mother's Day weekend come earlier than usual. Orders placed by mid-morning stand the best chance.
Pickup is easy. If Mom is in the neighbourhood (or you are), our shop at 125 Roncesvalles Avenue is a short walk from High Park and an easy stop on any Sunday morning route. We'll have her bouquet waiting, wrapped, and ready to hand over.
Message us if you're unsure. Tell us a little about her (her favourite colour, her favourite room in the house, whether she leans classic or modern), and our designers will build something just for her. That's always been the Willem & Jools way. You can reach us on our contact page or call the shop directly.

When is Mother's Day 2026? Sunday, May 10th
How far ahead should I order flowers for Mother’s Day? At least one week, ideally two, for the best selection and guaranteed delivery.
Can I get same-day delivery on Mother's Day? Potentially, but it's risky. Limited selection, higher prices, and possible delays. Order ahead whenever possible.
What flowers are most popular for Mother's Day? Roses (especially pink), tulips, peonies (if available), lilies, and mixed spring arrangements.
Should I choose her favourite flowers or traditional Mother's Day flowers? Her favorites! Personal preference beats tradition every time.
Can I send flowers to multiple moms (my mom and mother-in-law)? Absolutely. Just make sure each arrangement feels appropriate for that relationship.
What's better for Mother’s Day, cut flowers or a potted plant? Depends on her preference. Cut flowers are traditional and immediately impressive. Potted plants last longer and can be planted outside.
