There’s a moment in every floral arrangement when everything just comes together (the flowers, the vase, the space) and it turns into something truly beautiful. At Willem & Jools, we see the vase as just as important as the flowers themselves. Inspired by Dutch floral traditions and shaped by years of hands-on design in our Roncesvalles studio, this is one of the key ideas we always share: the container is part of the overall design.
Whether you’re putting together a centrepiece for a dinner party, adding some life to your workspace, or giving flowers as a gift, the right vase can make all the difference. It’s what takes an arrangement from nice to truly memorable. Here’s how our design team approaches it.
Before you reach for a vessel, really look at what you're working with. What's the stem height? How heavy or airy is the bloom? Does the arrangement have sculptural structure, or is it soft and garden-inspired? These qualities will guide everything else. A dramatic, textural arrangement with oversized blooms needs a vessel that can anchor it visually. A delicate, wispy mix of seasonal wildflowers deserves something more relaxed and organic in shape.
We always recommend stepping back and letting the flowers tell you what they need before forcing them into a vessel.

A tall, clear glass vase is one of the most versatile pieces a floral designer can use. Because it’s transparent, you get to see the full length of the stems, which adds a natural, organic beauty that solid containers just can’t match.
This style works especially well for:
Bold statement arrangements featuring large-headed blooms like peonies, dahlias, or garden roses, where the visual weight calls for a grounded, weighty base
Tall, sculptural arrangements with long stems and architectural foliage
Seasonal centrepieces where you want the flowers to be the undisputed focal point
Our Spectacular Arrangement in a Clear Glass Vase is a perfect example of this principle in action. Designed with gorgeous, textural flowers and fresh greenery, the high-quality clear vase allows the arrangement to shine as a standalone piece, and because it's reusable, it becomes part of your home long after the blooms have come and gone. This style is ideal for milestone birthdays, celebrations of life, or any occasion that calls for an original, memorable statement. Starting from $220.
Design tip: Keep the water clean and fresh. With a clear vase, the water is visible, so regular changes make all the difference aesthetically and practically.

One of the most loved pieces in our studio is the copper compote, a wide, low, bowl-shaped vessel that creates a completely different feel. Without a tall neck to hold stems in place, it naturally leads to a softer, more relaxed arrangement, where flowers gather in the centre and gently spill outward, like something you’d find in a garden.
This container type pairs beautifully with:
Textural, mixed arrangements that feature a range of bloom shapes, sizes, and foliage
Seasonal flowers with shorter stem lengths, like ranunculus, anemones, or compact dahlias
Arrangements intended for wide, low surfaces — a dining table centrepiece, a credenza, or a mantle
Our Large Tabletop Arrangement in a Copper Compote Container is one of our most popular pieces. The warm brushed copper finish adds a layer of earthy richness that complements almost any floral palette, from soft blush and cream tones to deep burgundy and terracotta. It's a natural group gift for birthdays, promotions, or sympathy sentiments, pieces that need to feel generous and considered, not generic. Starting from $190.
Design tip: Because compote arrangements are wider than they are tall, they're best viewed from above or eye-level across a table. Position them at seated-eye height for maximum impact.

There's something deeply personal about a milk glass vase. The opaque, creamy white surface has an antique, heirloom quality that brings warmth and intimacy to any space and it pairs exceptionally well with garden-style florals that lean romantic and soft.
Milk glass is ideal for:
Soft colour palettes — blush, lavender, peach, ivory, and white blooms glow beautifully against the muted white background
Loose, organic arrangements with a cottage-garden feel
Personal gifting occasions, where you want the piece to feel intimate and thoughtful rather than grand and formal
Our Medium Arrangement in a Milk Glass Vase — presented in a charming hobnail jar — embodies exactly this spirit. Garden-inspired florals and lush greenery nestle into the vessel in a way that feels natural and unhurried, as though the flowers grew there themselves. It's the kind of arrangement that says "I love you" or "I'm thinking of you" without needing to say anything at all. Starting from $85.
Design tip: Milk glass works best in smaller, more intimate spaces: a bedside table, a kitchen windowsill, or a reading nook.

Tin arrangements occupy a wonderful middle ground: they're relaxed and approachable, but with real design intention behind them. Whether it's a ribbed tin or a classic farmhouse-style vessel, tin brings an organic, textured quality that feels at home in modern, Scandinavian-influenced interiors as well as more traditional or rustic spaces.
Tin containers suit:
Mixed seasonal arrangements that feature both blooms and foliage with a natural, unstructured quality
Everyday gifting for desks, office spaces, dining tables, or bedside tables
Delivery gifts, where the recipient may not have a vase ready, a pre-arranged tin arrives complete and ready to enjoy
Our Medium Arrangement in a Ribbed Tin brings Ontario-grown flowers and the finest Holland blooms together in a farmhouse-inspired ribbed container — perfect for credenzas, dining tables, or office spaces. Starting from $95. For smaller spaces like a desk or bedside table, our Small Tin Arrangement offers that same organic charm in a more compact form, starting from $66. Both tins are completely reusable — they go on to become lovely plant holders or desk organizers long after the flowers have served their season.
Design tip: Tin containers pair particularly well with autumnal and winter palettes, deep greens, burnt oranges, rich plums, and warm whites. In spring and summer, try lighter, airy stems in pastel tones to create a beautiful contrast with the cooler metal.
If you prefer a hand-tied bouquet, like our Petite, Medium, or Large Hand-Tied Bouquets, you'll have the pleasure of choosing your own vessel at home. Our design team recommends these simple pairings:
A wide-mouthed ceramic or glass pitcher works beautifully for a loose, abundant hand-tied bouquet, letting the blooms fan out naturally
A tall, narrow-necked glass vase gives structure to a more formal bouquet and keeps stems upright
A low bowl or wide compote can work for smaller hand-tied arrangements if you trim the stems significantly and allow the blooms to spread
Hand-tied bouquets are best for pick-up or local delivery when the recipient already has vases at home. If you're sending flowers as a gift and aren't sure what the recipient has on hand, we recommend one of our pre-arranged vase, tin, or milk glass options.
